Official Aviation Guide puts airport in second spot across North America
KALISPELL, Montana. (November 13, 2019) – Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA) was ranked second for on-time departures in North America in October 2019. Globally, GPIA holds the 33rd spot. National and global rankings are provided by Official Aviation Guide (OAG), the leading provider of travel data and insights for the airline industry.
“Our number two spot this past month is well-deserved, and it wouldn’t be possible without the hard-working airline crews we have here at GPIA,” says Airport Director Rob Ratkowski.
In comparison, Missoula ranked 100th in North America and 350th globally, and Bozeman ranked 106th in North America and 367th globally.
“The crews from each airline serving GPIA are impressive- it’s really remarkable that they all pushed flights out on time, especially with several early winter storms,” said Ratkowski. “The ground crews work incredibly hard in some tough conditions and with a lot of pressure to keep flights moving.”
Of flights departing the tarmac in October, 93.5% left on time, pushing the airport to the top of the national and global rankings for the month. The Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois in Marion, Illinois received the top spot in North America with 95.1% of flights leaving on time. Veterans Airport operates flights to St. Louis. GPIA operates flights to eight or more destinations each day.
With record-breaking passenger volumes, an expansion to the terminal is on the horizon. The airport continues to serve the growing demand for air service to and from the Flathead Valley while emphasizing exceptional customer experience.
“The ground crews that work around the clock at GPIA embody that famous Montana work ethic,” said Ratkowski. “They are an essential part of your travel experience- and often we don’t see how hard these folks work to ensure an efficient and pleasant flight.”
